Hi Everyone, and Happy New year.
It has been a while since I wrote a newsletter to give you news and updates on what is happening with The Mindful Rider. Last year was busy and very fulfilling for me as a coach. And within my own life. I am hoping to create the same joy and satisfaction in 2023.
The year is yet again looking busy; I am in the midst of updating the calendar on my website at the moment. Loading the calendar and planning it all, is a massive task as I check dates with private and public venues. I feel so grateful to the generous people who allow me to do clinics at their homes. So this can be a challenge, as sometimes the public venues are unavailable on the dates I need. Unfortunately, I have only managed to get two dates in Albany this year. Our first date for Albany will be Feb 10 – 12th, and the other is Oct 20-22nd. If anyone knows of a venue in Albany with a good arena, yards and power for the video feedback, please let me know.
Last year I went back to Canberra at the end of the year. I am returning in March to do two clinics again and adding New Zealand onto that trip on 25-26th March at Hawkes Bay and early 1-2nd April at Woodhill.
The bookings for Canberra are via the website, but I have the lovely Loz Ushay helping me on the east coast and the bookings for New Zealand are via the below organisers. Thank you, Sue and Denise, for helping me yet again.
The organisers are Denise Rewi in Hawkes Bay, NZ. Contact Denise via email at ddsmash50@hotmail.com
Sue Pennington for Woodhill NZ. Contact Sue via email sue@suepequestrian.co.nz. I will also return to Darwin, Berry Springs in May, June and August. Alison Osborne is the contact for booking in The Northern Territory; Contact Alison at alisonaosborne@gmail.com if you are interested or wish to book a place. Don’t hesitate to contact me for more details on any of these clinics. The Sound System of Training is still in full swing, with new audio lessons added regularly. I have now started doing recordings with lessons covering position improvements. These lessons have no arena plan. Instead, you listen to the audio lesson while you ride. The lessons can be done in the arena or as you trail ride.
These lessons are in Level 6. titled “Specific rider position lessons and let’s go trail riding”.
So far, we have lessons on stilling the legs and another on steady hands to improve the contact. The stable hand lesson will be available in two weeks. This section is building content at the moment. If you are curious about joining “The Sound System of Training” and getting access to over 120 audio lessons. The lessons are spread over 60×20 and 40×20 arenas ranging from coming back into work to Elementary -Medium level.

Ann Montgomery of the Mindful Rider and Michelle Nord of Evolve EQ are coming together to help riders understand how the horse communicates. So often, the horse is giving us cues on what he is thinking and feeling, but as humans, we don’t see, recognise, or hear it. How often do you find yourself as riders caught up in life and are not present when working with your horses? An opportunity to explore changing that for the better. Michelle and Ann will help you recognise more about your horse and yourself so you can partner with your horse. This clinic is suitable for riding horses or starting their journey into being ridden in the future. What will you get in this clinic? - A one-on-one lesson of 45 mins with Michelle
- A one-on-one lesson of 45 mins with Ann
- Theory session
- Light lunch
- Tea, coffee and cake.
- 10 spaces are available.
A bit of information on Michelle Nord Michelle has spent many years studying the nuances of horse psychology and behaviour. During your time with her, you will discuss your horse’s needs and where they come from—deepening your connection and understanding to a new level. The relationship between horse and human is a magical place where you can always find ways to better yourself. Attunement is the goal with skills to help understand where your horse’s anxiety or challenges come from. You will discuss what you can do to support your horse’s emotional well-being, which will transform your relationship and performance. Grab this time to Evolve with Evolve_EQ. I hope you can join us in creating the partnership with your horses they dream about.
