Clinics

Why do a clinic? Why not just have a lesson ?

The clinic format is more powerful than an ordinary lesson, where I don’t see riders on a regular basis.

A clinic allows me the time to incorporate video footage into the learning experience.  By recording the rider at the beginning and snippets throughout  the lesson, with an unmounted feedback session after a few lessons are completed, they can achieve noticeable improvements in their riding and their horse’s way of going, in a short space of time.

A clinic enhances that learning even further, as the rider has the opportunity to replicate what they achieved the previous day, with feedback on their success at doing so.

We find that the shared learning experience and camaraderie within the clinic setting – as opposed to a private assessment lesson – offers riders an additional opportunity to learn from each other and support one another in a friendly and relaxed environment.

Clinics can be structured to enable riders to leave shortly after their lesson if they choose to not have the video feedback or stay for the day to watch other lessons and participate in the video feedback/ mini-workshop. Clinics can be run over one or two days and arranged according to the weather. Most venues in WA have the 9 rider format, but some clinic hosts choose other options of the 6 or 12 rider formats.

Assessments lessons may be organised at clinics, time permitting.

Clinic Formats

We’ve found the following formats to be successful for the clinics we’ve run in the past.  If you’re interested in running a clinic at your club or venue, this outline may be useful for budgeting and planning purposes.  If the format you’d like isn’t listed, please don’t hesitate to ask us about it.

6 Rider – Intensive

    • 6 Riders with a private lesson of 45 minutes each in the morning & lesson of 30 minutes in the afternoon to consolidate what was learned in the morning.
    • Video Feedback Session and Mini Workshop after all 6 riders have finished the first lesson.
    • This helps riders have a clear understanding of where they need to improve.  The changes a rider is asked to make throughout the lesson might feel unusual, but actually seeing their body position on the video will help to validate what they felt and give them a better chance of recalling that feeling in the future.
    • During this time we examine the body alignment of the rider off the horse and practice specific exercises to improve areas of stiffness or weakness that are identified.

8 Riders

  • 8 Riders with a private lesson of 45 minutes each
  • Video Feedback Session and Mini Workshop are at miday and again at the end of the day, this means riders do a morning or afternoon session.  Horse/Rider Video feedback and mini workshop help combination into a clearer understanding of biomechanics of both horse and rider.  This helps riders have a clear understanding of where they need to improve.

Regular Clinics

  • This is the format used for our Regular Clinics in Albany and Margaret River.
  • Maximum of 9 Riders, Assessment lessons are also available at these clnics.
  • Riders can either have a 1-hour private lesson and leave with no video feedback or have a 3/4 hour private lesson and join the video feedback/mini-workshop every 2-3 riders.
  • This option lets the busy rider leave after their lesson or take the time to participate in the feedback session. A lot of our riders video the feedback on their phones for future reference.
  • Depending on numbers, assessment lessons can be offered at these clinics.
  • Assessment lessons are longer, lasting 1.5 hours.

Small Groups

  • Ann offers regular private lessons with small groups of riders in various areas.
  • If you’re interested in starting a new group, or joining an existing group, contact Ann.
